SNAVers Advocate for Bigger, Better, More Joined Up Nature in Southwark

SNAVers Anna Hwang Colligan and Simon Saville are working as co-optees on Southwark’s Environment Scrutiny Commission 2023-24. The 27th February meeting, focusing on biodiversity in the borough, was led by ESC chair Margy Newens and featured presentations from SNAVers Jenny Morgan and Susan Crisp as well as Anna and Simon. SNAV’s contribution to the Commission also includes these important evidence-based reports on De-paving in Southwark and Nature Recovery in Southwark, and a map, giving a much-needed update of opportunities for nature and nature connectivity in the borough. One of SNAV’s suggestions, to consider recovering Southwark’s lost rivers, sparked interest from Southwark News.

Anna will soon be meeting for a follow-up with the Southwark Ecology team to review the map, specific nature connectivity strategies, and discuss how these can be better, more systematically implemented by the various council teams.
